CAMBRIDGE - Westfield State senior John Messer set a school record in the mile run at the ECAC Division III championships held at the Harvard University track and field facility on March 7-8.
Messer, a graduate of Westfield High School, earned all six of the Owls' points in the 58-team meet by finishing third with a time of 4:14.14. Erik Donahue of St. Lawrence, N.Y., won the mile in 4:12.02 and Amherst's Peter Harris was second in 4:13.81.
