WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Westfield State sophomore goalkeeper Luke Theroux (Chicopee, Mass./Comp) was named as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer defensive player of the week for the week ending Oct. 28.
It's the third time this season that Theroux has claimed the award, as he also was cited on Sept. 3 and 24.
This week, Theroux helped the Owls to a win and tie, as the Owls defeated league-leading Bridgewater State 1-0 on Saturday, after a 1-1 draw with non-conference opponent VSU-Castleton on Tuesday.
Theroux registered a 0.50 GAA, 16 saves and a .941 save percentage on the week. He recorded a season-high 11 saves while collecting his fourth shutout of the season to help the Owls hand Bridgewater State their first loss in conference play, and added five saves in the 1-1 tie with VT State-Castleton.
For the season, Theroux has posted a 1.33 goals against average in 13 games. He has a .789 save percentage and a 5-4-4 record.
Westfield is 5-6-5 overall and 3-2-1 in the MASCAC. The Owls currently sit in second place in the league amid a tight race for the #2 seed in the upcoming conference tournament. Westfield will look to solidify it's seeding when they host Salem State on Saturday, Nov. 2, which will be Westfield's final home game of the 2024 season, and also the team's senior day.
