Theroux Secures MASCAC Defensive Player of the Week
Westfield State sophomore goalkeeper Luke Theroux was awarded the MASCAC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Owls 3-0 season opener against SUNY Cobleskill.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State men's soccer has been awarded the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the in the form of goalkeeper Luke Theroux (Chicopee, Mass.).
Theroux was in net on Friday evening for the Owls and played the part of a brick wall as he saved all four shots on net as part of a 3-0 victory over SUNY Cobleskill in the season opener. This was Theroux's third shutout at the college level dating back to his two last fall.
As a freshman, Theroux started 16 of 17 games as a first-year goalkeeper for the Owls in which he had two complete game shutouts while allowing two or fewer goals in 11 games. He also saved 100 shots as that was good for the third highest in the conference.
Theroux and the Owls will look to continue this momentum with a three-game slate of road games this starting at Anna Maria on Tuesday, September 3rd at 5 P.M.
