Westfield State first-year goalie Esteban Gauthier (Sainte-Julie, Quebec) delivered quite the impressive collegiate debut, earning the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week this past week for the Owls.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State first-year goalie Esteban Gauthier (Sainte-Julie, Quebec) delivered quite the impressive collegiate debut, earning the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week this past week for the Owls.
Gauthier got the nod in goal in his first ever collegiate start against Assumption College on Thursday. Gauthier took to the ice and produced 57 saves in a close 4-3 win over the Greyhounds. Including 26 saves in the final period alone to preserve the victory. Gauthier let up just one goal in his first collegiate period of play as he helped Westfield get out ahead 4-1.
Gauthier also saw time against the Quebec Junior Hockey League All-Star team in the preseason exhibition. He played the first period against the All-Stars and earned seven saves and the win.
Gauthier and the Owls have the holiday break off and return to action Thursday, November 9 in Framingham to take on the Rams for a conference matchup at 7:40 P.M.
