The Westfield State ice hockey trio of Valtteri Valtonen, Cooper Board, and Duncan Nichols-Delay each earned recognition as part of the Krampade/AHCA All-American Scholar Program for the 2022-23 season.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State ice hockey players Valtteri Valtonen (Helsinki, Finland), Cooper Board (Salem, Mass.) and Duncan Nichols-Delay (Calgary, Alberta) each earned recognition as part of the Krampade/American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) All-American Scholar Program, highlighting outstanding academic performance and on-ice contributions for the 2022-23 season.
In order to qualify for the AHCA honors, players must have achieved a 3.75 grade-point average or higher and must have appeared in 40% of the team's total games played. Backup goaltenders and players that were injured prior to the 40% criteria were also granted acceptance into the program.
Valtonen and Nichols-Delay served as goaltenders for Westfield this past season with Valtonen earning MASCAC All-Conference Second Team honors for the second time in as many seasons with the Owls. Nichols-Delay, a first-year student from Calgary, Alberta, appeared in one game for the Owls this season and stopped 19 of 21 shots faced.
Board, who also entered the 2022-23 season as a first-year student, led the Owls in goals (15) and points (22) and tied for the second-most goals in the MASCAC.
