Valtonen Named to All-Conference Team
Westfield State sophomore goaltender Valtteri Valtonen (Helsinki, Finland/HIFK U-20) was named to the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference men’s ice hockey all conference team on Wednesday.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State sophomore goaltender Valtteri Valtonen (Helsinki, Finland/HIFK U-20) was named to the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference men's ice hockey all conference team on Wednesday.
Valtonen was named to the second team after averaging 2.83 GAA and a .926 save percentage. He led the league with 705 saves, an average of 32 saves per game. He finished with a 10-10-1 overall record.
Valtonen is playing his first season with the Owls after the pandemic canceled the 2020-21 season.
Westfield State finished 13-12-2 for the season, placing fifth in the MASCAC. The Owls upset UMass Dartmouth 2-1 in overtime in the semifinals of the MASCAC Conference tournament behind 38 saves from Valtonen.
