Collins Named MASCAC Co-Player of the Week
Westfield State senior Justin Collins (Wilmington, Mass.) was recognized as the league’s co-player of the week for his efforts in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference ice hockey quarterfinal win against UMass Dartmouth.
Westfield, Mass. - Westfield State senior Justin Collins (Wilmington, Mass.) was recognized as the league's co-player of the week for his efforts in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference ice hockey quarterfinal win against UMass Dartmouth.
Collins potted the overtime winner, to give the Owls a 2-1 win, on a breakaway that sent the Owls to the semifinal where they will face off against Salem State at 7:35pm on Tuesday, March 1 at Amelia Park Ice Arena in Westfield, Mass.
Collins has three goals and 10 assists for 13 points this season.
Goaltender Valtteri Valtonen (Helsinki, Finland) was recognized on the MASCAC honor roll. Valtonen recorded 38 saves on 39 shots for a 0.97 GAA and .974 save percentage to help the Owls advance over UMass Dartmouth in the MASCAC quarterfinal game this past Saturday.
Valtonen is 10-9-1 in net with a 2.82 GAA this season.
