WESTFIELD, Mass. - Westfield State University's senior Jackson Leef (Fort Wayne, IN) has been named the 2016-17 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year and headlines the All-Conference team as voted on by the coaches from around the league. Leef finished the season tied for first in the conference in total points with 19 goals and 21 assists. His 19 goals were second-most in the league while his assists were the third highest in the conference. He also tallied the second-most power play points with 15 on six goals and nine assists. In the final game of the regular season against Plymouth State, he netted his 100th point on a late goal. Leef is currently ninth in Division III in both points (1.6) and goals per game (0.76).
"Jackson has been a big part of our program since the moment that he stepped on campus" said Head Coach Bob Miele, "Not only was he a great team player and have great production on the ice, but he was a leader off the ice as well."
Leef ranks tied for 15th on the Owls career scoring list with 102 points on 45 goals and 57 assists. He ranks third among Owls scorers since the program returned to the ice in 2009, behind Dennis Zak '11 with 127 and Pat Nelson '12 with 108. Leef's 45 goals are tied for 12th all-time with Brian Cox '83, and third among the new generation behind only Zak and Dalton Jay '16.

"Jackson was great on face-offs, could make plays and was a great finisher. He had a high hockey IQ and compete level to add to this skill set which made him dominant" said Coach Miele, "I always admired his discipline, respect, and passion for the game. He helped advance the program in many ways, and we are lucky to have had him."
Greco, a sophomore defenseman, started in all 26 games and finished the season with three goals, 16 assists and 19 points.
The Owls finished their season at 11-15 overall and 6-12 in conference play.
