Thomson, Galvani Named to CSC Academic All District Teams
Top student athletes from the CSC Academic All District teams advance to the Academic All-America ballot.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State University men's basketball senior center Joe Thomson and women's basketball sophomore guard Caroline Galvani were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Teams, the organization announced on Tuesday.
To be eligible, athletes must maintain a 3.5 GPA or better while contributing as a starter or key reserve on their respective teams.
Thomson, a chemistry major from Sunderland, Mass. (Frontier HS), had an immediate impact on the Owls lineup this season. He was named the MVP of the Rick Martin-Hampton Inn Tournament to start the season, and finished the year averaging 10.1 points and 11.6 rebounds per game. He led the MASCAC in rebounding, and currently stands fifth in the nation in rebounds per game. A transfer from Division I Davidson College, Thomson has remaining athletic eligibility should he elect to return to school. He was at his best down the stretch, averaging 16 rebounds per game over the Owls final seven games of the season.
The Owl men finished the year 21-6 overall, falling in the MASCAC Conference championship game after winning the league's regular season title with a 12-2 mark in MASCAC play.
Galvani, a health science major from Framingham, Mass., averaged 8.8 points per game in 24 games this season, finishing as the Owls' second leading scorer. She also grabbed 2.3 steals per game, ranking eighth in the conference in that category. She was fourth in the league with 44 made three pointers.
The Westfield women finished with 17-9 overall record and a 9-5 mark in the league to finish third in the MASCAC.
