Thomson Named MASCAC Player of the Week
Registered a pair of double-doubles in a 2-0 week for the Owls which enter the MASCAC postseason as the number one seed.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State forward Joe Thomson (Sunderland, Mass.) earned conference honors during a 2-0 week for the Owls as he was named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week.
Thomson averaged 17.0 points and 15.5 rebounds per game while shooting 56.5 percent from the floor as the Owls wrapped up the MASCAC regular season title with two conference wins this past week. He collected 22 points and 15 boards in an 84-77 win over Salem State on Wednesday, then added 12 points and 16 rebounds in a 90-87 victory against Fitchburg State in the regular season finale.
Thomson has registered a double-double in four straight games, leading the MASCAC in rebounds per game at 11.4 per game to go along with 10.3 points per game. He has been a menace on the glass throughout the season, racking up 15 games with ten or more rebounds including the past six games. Thomson has also swatted the third most shots in the league with 28.
Westfield State (20-5, 12-2 MASCAC) soars into the MASCAC Tournament on a six-game winning streak with the top seed in the postseason, receiving a first-round bye and will host a conference semifinal game on Friday night at 7:00 P.M. from the Woodward Center against the lowest remaining seed from first round games on Wednesday.
