Rogers Named Player, Rookie of the Year , Johnson Defensive Player of the Year
Westfield State's Kenny Rogers, Eric Johnson, and Lid Moreland were all named to the MASCAC first-team all conference awards.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – The 2025 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference champion men's basketball team was well represented on the league's all-conference team, as first-year forward Kenneth Rogers, Jr. (Springfield, Mass./ Springfield Int. Charter) was named the league's Rookie of the Year and Co-Player of the Year, senior center Eric Johnson (Houston, Tex./Travis) was selected as the Defensive Player of the Year, and both joined senior guard Lid Moreland (Bridgeport, Conn./ Bunnell – Bridgeport Prep) on the conference's first team.
Rogers has had a standout rookie year for the Owls accumulating more than 500 points and 250 rebounds to date in leading Westfield to the MASCAC's regular season and tournament championships. He was named the circuit's rookie of the week 13 times, and leads the league with 18.7 points per game, ranks second in rebounding with 9.0 per game, and third in assists at 3.9 per game. Rogers connected 45.4 percent from the floor and 31.1 percent from long range.
Rogers shared the player-of-the-year honor with Worcester State guard Brandon Goris.
Johnson anchored the Owls pressure defense as the strongest paint presence for the Owls. He averages 6.4 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.3 blocked shots and 1.2 steals per game. He ranks third in the league in blocked shots per game and seventh in rebounds.
Moreland is scoring 17.4 points per game, with 3.8 rebounds, 2.6 steals and 2.3 assists per game. The Owls lead guard ranked fifth in the league in points per game and second in steals. He was named the MVP of the MASCAC Tournament after scoring 20 in the semifinals and 18 in the championship game.
Westfield is 21-6 on the season under coach Rich Sutter, and will play #5 ranked Randolph Macon (Va.) College in the opening round of the NCAA Division III men's basketball championships on Friday at 3:30 p.m. in Lancaster, Pa.
