Thompson Earns MASCAC Recognition
Owls junior forward JT Thompson receives the MASCAC Player of the Week
Westfield, Mass. – Westfield State junior forward JT Thompson (Columbia, S.C.) was selected the MASCAC Player of the Week after averaging 17.0 points, 1.5 steals, and 2.0 rebounds per game over the weekend at the WestConn TipOff Tournament.
Thompson collected eight points in the victory over Sarah Lawrence College on Friday, and then carried the Owls to a tournament title over host Western Connecticut by pouring in 26 points on 7-13 shooting while burying six triples. His 19 second-half points fueled a second half comeback as the Owls outscored Western Connecticut by 18 in the final half to win the game 75-63. Thompson also collected three of seven steals for the Owls in the contest.
Westfield State (2-0) will return home after a productive opening weekend as the Owls host the Rick Martin/Hampton Inn Tournament at the Woodward Center beginning Friday at 5:30 P.M. against Northern Vermont-Lyndon.
