WESTFIELD, Mass. - Westfield State University senior Jesus Sanchez (Springfield, Mass. / Holderness) has been named to the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball all-conference first team, as voted on by the league's coaches.
Sanchez was named to the all-conference team for a second straight season; he was a second-team all-conference pick last season. The 6-foot guard leads the team in minutes played (31.8) and scoring, averaging 14.8 points a game. Sanchez averaged 3.3 rebounds a game and 2.6 assists.
Sanchez finishes a fine four year career for the Owls with 1,203 points, good for 14th on Westfield State's all-time list, and 105 games played, tying him for the second most in school history.
Westfield State finished the regular season at 10-15 overall, and ranked fourth in the MASCAC with a 6-6 league record.
Senior Jaleel Bell of Fitchburg State is the 2016-17 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Year for the second year in a row and headlines the All-Conference team.
Joining Sanchez and Bell on the 2016-17 MASCAC first-team All-Conference squad are Salem State's Marcus Faison and Shaquan Murray, Westfield State's Jesus Sanchez and Worcester State's Paul Brooks.
