Mengata Named Conference Rookie of the Week

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Westfield State first-year running back Manny Mengata (Tewksbury, Mass.) was named as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference's rookie of the week after running for more than 100 yards in his collegiate debut.
Mengata toted the ball 25 times for 113 yards against VTSU-Castleton, an average of 4.5 yards per carry. He gained the yardage in only 50 minutes of play, as the game had to be stopped due to lightning and thunderstorms with 9:42 left to play and the Owls set to begin an offensive drive.
Castleton emerged with a 16-12 win over the Owls.
After one week of play, Mengata ranks second in the conference in rushing.
Mengata's Owls will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 13 for their conference opener, traveling to Bridgewater State for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff.
