Family Ties: Conor Schlittler’s Brother, Cam Makes MLB Debut
Cam Schlittler, brother of recently graduated Owls football player Conor, made his MLB debut with the New York Yankees this past Wednesday.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – This past Wednesday, Walpole, Massachusetts native Cam Schlittler made his Major League Baseball pitching debut for the New York Yankees, serving of special interest to the Westfield State community as his younger brother, Conor Schlittler recently graduated after a four-year football career.
After spending over two years within the Yankees minor league farm system, Cam's first career big league outing was a success, as he also earned his first MLB victory against the Seattle Mariners.
The 24-year-old righthander tossed 5.1 innings while allowing three runs on four hits. He walked two and struck out seven, featuring an upper 90s fastball throughout his outing. His first major league strikeout came against one of the best hitters in baseball, catching all-star Cal Raleigh looking on a 99.6mph fastball.
A Northeastern University graduate, Cam was drafted in the seventh round of the 2022 MLB Junior Amateur Draft by the Yankees. On June 3, Schlittler was called up to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, the Yankees Triple-A affiliate where he compiled a 2-1 record and a 3.80 earned run average.
Cam had 23 seats reserved for family and friends. One of those seats was for his brother Conor who recently wrapped up a four-year stint with the Westfield State football program.
Conor racked up 201 yards and two touchdowns, battling several injuries over the course of his career that kept him out of the lineup. This past season, the 6-2 wide receiver made one of the most important and memorable catches of the season for Westfield, hauling in a 22-yard touchdown reception with under seven minutes remaining in the game to put the Owls ahead of Bridgewater State 24-17, serving as the game-winning score. Westfield would go on to defeat the Bears, capturing their first victory over Bridgewater since the 2011 season.
Conor graduated from Westfield State this past spring with an undergraduate degree in Political Science.
Conor and Cam are sons of Needham Police Chief John Schlittler who has routinely supported both in their collegiate and professional sports journeys.
