Lovell Named MASCAC Rookie of the Week
Westfield State first-year defensive back Eric Lovell (Barnstable, Mass.) made a significant impact in the Owls final game of the season, winning the MASCAC Rookie of the Week honors.
WESTFIELD, Mass. — Westfield State first-year defensive back Eric Lovell (Barnstable, Mass.) made a significant impact in the Owls final game of the season, winning the MASCAC Rookie of the Week honors.
Lovell tallied two interceptions this week against Fitchburg State, including one that got returned to the Falcons seven-yard line to set up an Owls touchdown in the 22-7 victory for Westfield.
The two interceptions now double his season total to four, which is tied for fourth best in the MASCAC. Lovell also is second in the MASCAC for most return yards after an interception with 105.
Lovell is just wrapping up his freshman year campaign and will look forward to contributing once again to this Owls defense in fall 2025.
Westfield State closed the 2024 season on a high note by defeating Fitchburg State 22-7 as the Owls finished the year 4-6 overall with a 4-5 record in the MASCAC.
