Phaneuf, Palmer to Play in NEIBA All-Star Game
The Owls teammates will participate with other New England regional players on Monday, June 1 for a 6:00 P.M. first pitch from Fitton Field on the campus of Holy Cross.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State senior outfielder Sam Palmer (Medfield, Mass.) and sophomore pitcher Andre Phaneuf (Westfield, Mass.) were both selected to play in the 51st New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association All-Star game on Monday, June 1 at 6:00 P.M. from Fitton Field on the campus of Holy Cross.
Palmer and Phaneuf were both ABCA/Rawlings All-Region recipients with Palmer earning Region II second team honors while Phaneuf earned a spot on the third team. Both players also nabbed MASCAC All-Conference honors as well with Palmer securing a spot on the first team for a fourth straight year and Phaneuf was a member of the second team.
Palmer finished the season with a batting average of .380 with 54 hits, four home runs, and 31 runs batted in. He led the team and was fifth in the MASCAC in batting average while holding the team lead in hits, extra base hits, doubles, home runs, on-base and slugging percentage.
Phaneuf recorded the fourth lowest earned run average in the league at 2.79, making 11 appearances and nine starts for a 2-5 record in 51.2 innings pitched. He struck out 50 and walked 21.
First pitch for the game is at 6:00 P.M. with a Hall of Fame presentation starting at 5:20 P.M. leading in to player introductions at 5:45 P.M.
