Pollard Named MASCAC Rookie of the Week
The first-year starter tossed a complete game shutout during the week to earn conference rookie honors.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State first-year pitcher Griffin Pollard (Mystic, Conn.) earned conference honors this past week as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week after leading the Owls to a win on Wednesday.
The right hander spun a complete-game three hitter for the Owls in a 9-0 victory over MCLA, carrying a perfect game into the fifth inning. He struck out three and allowed three hits and one walk to earn his second victory of the season.
Pollard has now strung together back-to-back strong outings as he delivered five shutout innings in his first collegiate start of his career against Fitchburg State, allowing just two hits while striking out four.
On the season, Pollard has lowered his season earned run average to 4.71 across 21 innings pitched and since moving into a starting role, he has not allowed a run in 12 innings of work.
Westfield State (8-18, 5-6 MASCAC) will host MCLA to wrap up a three-game series tomorrow at 3:00 P.M. from Bud and Jim Hagan Field in Westfield, Mass.
