Four Baseball Players Named to MASCAC All-Conference Teams
Westfield State baseball players Nick Marshall, Dan Burnett, Ryan Lapierre, and Ethan Day all received conference recognition as they were named to the MASCAC All-Conference first and second teams for the 2023 season.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State baseball players Nick Marshall (Reading, Mass.), Dan Burnett (Granville, Mass.), Ryan Lapierre (Pittsfield, Mass.) and Ethan Day (Meriden, Conn.) all received conference recognition as they were named to the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference All-Conference Teams for the 2023 season as voted on by the coaches throughout the league.
Marshall, Burnett, and Lapierre were named to the MASCAC All-Conference First Team with Day being selected to the All-Conference Second Team.
Marshall was selected as the top first baseman in the MASCAC, earning All-Conference honors after finishing top five in the league in home runs (10), RBIs (41), on-base percentage (.512), and slugging (.717). He led the Owls with a .362 batting average and walked a league-high 31 times. His ten home runs rank third on the program's all-time single season list.
Burnett earned a spot on the first team as the league's top third baseman, piling up a .360 batting average with nine home runs and 33 RBI. He was second in the MASCAC with 15 doubles and 25 extra base hits and led Westfield with 54 hits overall. The junior infielder caught fire down the stretch as the Granville native batted .451 across the Owls final 20 games of the season.
Lapierre was one of two starting pitchers in the league that received placement on the All-Conference First Team, leading the Owls with 63.2 innings pitched across ten starts. The junior righthander won four games, collecting a 3.96 earned-run average. He registered 10.04 strikeouts per nine innings which resulted in the second-most strikeouts for a pitcher in the MASCAC with 71.
For the second time in his Westfield State career, Day was named to an All-Conference team, earning placement on the second team for the 2023 campaign. The graduate outfielder tallied a .307/.382/.512 slash line, recording 39 hits, 27 RBI, and three home runs. Day passed the 100-career hits mark earlier this season, finishing his four-year career with a .311 batting average in 376 at bats, registering nine home runs and 85 RBI.
Westfield State finished the 2023 season with an overall record of 19-19, and finished third in the MASCAC regular season standings with a 13-8 record. The Owls lost in the MASCAC Tournament to Fitchburg State, ultimately ending their season.
