Donahue Named MASCAC Pitcher of the Week
After tossing the seventh no hitter in program history, Westfield State junior Ryan Donahue was named the MASCAC Player of the Week for his performance this past Saturday.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – After tossing the seventh no hitter in program history, Westfield State junior Ryan Donahue (Medfield, Mass.) was named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for his performance over the weekend.
Donahue fired a complete-game shutout, registering ten punchouts and walking three across the seven-inning no hitter in a 3-0 win over Mass. Maritime on Saturday. Seven of the ten strikeouts were called strikes as the junior righthander mixed up his pitches and kept the Buccaneers offense off-balanced.
For Donahue, it was the third straight start in which he has struck out ten or more hitters (fanning ten against Fitchburg State and 11 versus Springfield College), and the fourth time in his career that he has reached double digit strikeouts in an outing.
On the season, Donahue has been one of the top power arms in the conference, recording the highest number of strikeouts per nine innings at 13.69 while also placing second in the MASCAC in total strikeouts with 36. He is currently tied for second on the Owls pitching staff in innings thrown (23.2) and has won two of his last three starts on the mound.
Westfield State will host a pair of non-conference NESCAC teams this week, beginning tomorrow as the Owls face Trinity College at 3:30 P.M. from Hagan Field in Westfield, Mass before entertaining Wesleyan University on Wednesday.
