WEEKEND PREVIEW: Owls Softball Set To Play Four Games

Westfield State softball will have a busy weekend with back to back doubleheaders against Mass Maritime and Baruch College. The Owls (4-14) will face the Mass Maritime Buccaneers (5-15) Saturday afternoon at one p.m. at the Maritime softball field in a conference battle (MASCAC). Westfield sits in fifth place in the conference with a record of (1-1) while Maritime is in sixth going (0-2) . Sunday afternoon, Westfield returns home to host Baruch College (10-6) for a non-conference doubleheader at one p.m. at the Westfield softball field.

The Owls have found production from seniors Colleen Hughes and Lindsay Cordopatri this season , who both have displayed consistent batting performances on the year. Hughes leads Westfield in hits with 24 this season on 56 at bats, maintaining a .462 batting average and a .673 slugging percentage. Cordopatri trails Hughes with 14 hits this season with a .341 batting average and a .471 on-base percentage with 12 runs . Both seniors have 12 RBI on the year. In the Owls most recent game,  Hughes hit a sacrifice fly to allow Cordopatri to score the game-winning run in extra innings against Fitchburg State. 

Mass Maritime has had a similar season to the Owls, being led by junior Abbey Pope and sophomore Olivia Camelo. Pope leads the Buccaneers in runs with a total of 20. She has a .448 on-base percentage with 13 stolen bases this year. Pope also has a .333 batting average with six RBI and 18 hits on the season, which ties with Camelo for most hits for Maritime. Camelo has a .391 batting average with four doubles, two triples, and eight RBI this year while sustaining a .440 on-base percentage and 10 runs.

The Baruch College Bearcats have been guided by freshman Bridget Campanelli and Carly Quint. Campanelli has a .455 batting average with 20 hits , 16 RBI, and nine doubles. Campanelli also has a .705 slugging percentage. Quint leads the Bearcats in hitting with .827 slugging percentage and a .442 batting average,  totaling 23 hits. Quint has a total of 22 RBI , four doubles, and five triples this season. She has a .464 on-base percentage with 20 runs while Campanelli has a .545 on-base percentage with 16 runs this year. Both freshman have played every game this season for the Bearcats.

Baruch College is a public college on the eastside of Manhattan, New York and is one of the 25 colleges apart of the City University of New York system (CUNY).

Saturday's doubleheader at Mass Maritime will be the Academy's Autism Awareness games.
