WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State University senior outfielder Nick Martin (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and senior starting pitcher Shane Bogli (Vernon, Conn/Vernon-Rockville HS) stood out in recent opportunities against high level competition.
Martin tied a Futures Collegiate Baseball League record with three stolen bases in the league's all star game on July 13 as he stole second, third and home in the game. Martin was voted into the all-star game in the fan vote. He's in his third season with the Worcester Bravehearts and needs to play in just three more games for 100 in his FCBL career.
Bogli started and pitched three shutout innings as his Bristol Blues of the NECBL met the Israel Olympic Team at Dunkin Donuts Park on July 14. Bogli struck out four hitter and allowed just one hit and one walk against a team comprised of former Major and Minor League players, along with collegiate and Israel professional players. Bogli got former MLB all-star Ian Kinsler to ground out with a runner on second to end his second inning of work.
Martin and Bogli both have remaining eligibility for the Owls, after the 2020 and '21 seasons were altered due to the pandemic. The Owls plan a full return to intercollegiate athletics for the 2021-22 academic year.
