Owls Baseball Perched Atop MASCAC Preseason Poll
Westfield State University baseball has been picked to defend it’s title in the in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference’s 2021 preseason coaches’ poll.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State University baseball has been picked to defend it's title in the in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference's 2021 preseason coaches' poll.
The Owls won the MASCAC regular-season and tournament titles in 2019, before the 2020 season was cut short just six games in due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Westfield is scheduled start the season this weekend with a pair of doubleheaders against local rival Western New England.
The Owls garnered five of the eight first-place votes in the league, and registered 46 points to lead the poll. Framingham State was second with 41points and one first place vote, Fitchburg State is third with 32 points and one first place vote, followed by Worcester State, Bridgewater, Salem State, Mass Maritime (who received the other first place vote) and MCLA.
Westfield State returns a veteran core that includes 10 seniors and a pair of graduate students.
Westfield has generated preseason buzz, receiving votes in the Collegiate Baseball preseason national poll, and the Owls were also picked to win the league by D3Baseball.com.
