Indoor Track Open To Community Walkers

The indoor track at the Woodward Center is open to Westfield community residents for free. Academic classes and special events always have priority over community walkers and may be in the field house at any time.

Please bring in a second pair of clean sneakers for walking and use the General Visitors locker room at the end of the hall to change. You will need to bring a valid license proving that you reside in Westfield. Sign in at the front desk before walking on the track.

The $18 million Woodward Athletic/Academic Center, which officially opened in September of 2004, is an 80,000 square foot facility that features an expansive field house. The 35,000 square foot field house is large enough to hold an official NCAA track and field meet. It includes a four-lane track (six lanes on the straightaway), and areas inside the track for jumping, pole vaulting and throwing events. The field house also has three full-length basketball courts, with the main performance court providing seating for 1,100, and a rock climbing area. The first floor of the Woodward Center features first-class athletic training, fitness center, and equipment room areas, along with locker room space for each varsity team. Located on the second floor area are a student lounge, a spacious aerobics/dance studio, four classrooms as well as exercise physiology, biomechanics, and motor learning laboratories, a multimedia computer lab, conference rooms, as well as office space for Westfield State's athletic and movement science departments.

The Woodward Center is located next to the Alumni Field, which is the sight for many of the college's intercollegiate and intramural outdoor activities. The artificial surface playing field has lights and is encircled by an eight-lane running track. Baseball, softball and grass practice fields surround Alumni Field. Stanley Park, located across the street, is often used by students and faculty for many recreational activities. The Westfield State men's and women's cross country team, for instance, holds its home meets at Stanley Park.

Additional indoor facilities on the main campus include a swimming pool and an expansive Wellness Center, both located in the Campus Center. A gymnasium with a full-length basketball court is located in Parenzo Hall.
Westfield State's field house features three basketball courts (two mondo courts), an indoor running track, jumping and throwing areas for track and field, two batting cages for baseball and softball, seating for 1,100, and a rock climbing wall.
