MASCAC Tournament Bracket
Westfield State College senior standout Chelsea Sylvia was named the Massachusetts State College Athletics Conference (MASCAC) pitcher of the week.
Sylvia fired a no-hitter and struck out 15 in an 8-0 victory over Salem State; she nearly pitched a perfect ame as she walked the first batter then retired 21 straight. Sylvia hurled a three-hitter with 10 strikeouts in a 10-0 victory over Nichols College.
Sylvia will more than like get the starting nod from veteran coach Lou Ann Simchak when Westfield State hosts MCLA in an opening round game of the MASCAC postseason tournament on Thursday at 4:00.
Westfield will host the remaining games of the four-team, double-elimination tournament on Saturday and Sunday, May 2-3. Westfield shared the MASCAC regular season championship with Bridgewater State but the Owls earned the No. 1 seed based on tiebreak criteria No. 3: their non-conference victory over Rhode Island College.
Framingham State is the No. 3 seed and plays at Bridgewater on Thursday. MCLA is the No. 4 seed.
Saturday's three games are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., 1:30, and 4:00. The losers of Thursday's game will play at 11:00 a.m. and the two winners of Thursday's game will play at 1:30.
The championship game is scheduled for Sunday at 12:00. A second game on Sunday, if necessary, will follow the noon game.
