The Westfield State College men's basketball team will host Daniel Webster College in the first round of the ECAC New England Division III men's basketball tournament on Wednesday, March 4, at 7:00. The Owls are seeded third in the eight-team tournament with an 18-9 overall record.
Westfield finished third in the highly competitive Mass. State Conference (MASCAC) this season with a 9-3 record. Regular season co-champions Bridgewater State and Salem State both earned NCAA Division III tournament bids. Westfield State last participated in the ECAC Tournament in 1994.
Daniel Webster, the No. 6 seed, owns a 17-9 record. The Nashua, N.H., college is a member of the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC).
In the other first round ECAC games on Wednesday, No. 1 seed Lasell College (18-9) hosts No. 8 Salve Regina (14-13). No. 2 seed Colby Sawyer (20-7) hosts No. 7 Rivier College (14-12), and No. 4 seed Becker (19-8) hosts No. 5 seed Framingham State (15-12).
The semifinals are scheduled for Saturday and the championship game for Sunday at the highest remaining seeds for all three games. The Westfield-Daniel Webster winner will play the Colby-Sawyer-Rivier winner.
