DANBURY, Conn. - Western Connecticut State University freshman Sondra McAdam (Redding, CT) broke two school records on Saturday afternoon, but it wasn't enough to defeat Westfield State College. The Owls prevailed 153-127 in the non-league meet at the O'Neill Center Pool.
McAdam set new school marks in the 100-yard and 50-yard butterfly events. Her times of 1:01.22 and 27.91, respectively also earned her victories for the Colonials, which finish the regular season at 5-5.
For Westfield State, now 6-3 on the season, Kimi Schmidt (Longmeadow, MA) sparkled in the one and three-meter diving events, earning victories with six-dive scores of 222.80 and 197.95, respectively.
Other winners for the Owls included Cairsten Beanland (Westford, MA) in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:48.45) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:42.60); Lindsey Malboeuf (Westford, MA) in the 50-yard backstroke (30.98); Kelly Johnson (Westford, MA) in the 50-yard backstroke (31.63); Aimee Raposo (North Dartmouth, MA) in the 100 breastroke (1:17.26), and Jen Butler (Southampton, MA) in the 50-yard freestyle (27.95).
McAdam also earned a victory in 100-yard IM with a time of 1:06.31 and was a member of WestConn's winning 200-yard medley relay team. Katie Meleg (Danbury, CT), Megan Dyson (Farmington, CT), McAdam and Francesca Testa (Cheshire, CT) clocked in at 1:57.74.
Testa also prevailed in the 200-yard freestyle at 2:08.67 while Dyson captured the 500-yard breaststroke in 32.93. Three events later, Dyson came back and won the 100-yard freestyle, touching the panel at 59.83.
Meleg earned the victory in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:06.51 for the Colonials.
Libby Stewart placed third in the 500 meter freestyle.
