WESTFIELD – Sophomore Jessi Gould (Canton, Mass.) scored three goals to power the Westfield State field hockey team to a 3-2 victory over Western Connecticut State University on Friday evening, Oct. 30.
The Owls conclude their season 8-10 overall and 4-7 in the Little East Conference. Western Connecticut finishes 4-13 and 3-8.
Gould gave Westfield a 1-0 lead 2:47 into the game with an assist from junior Alicia Gardner (Athol, Mass.). Western Connecticut knotted the score on freshman Valerie Lupo’s (New Fairfield, Conn.) first of two goals. Junior Stephanie Szafran (Killingworth, Conn.) assisted on both goals.
Gould scored 10 minutes into the second half, with an assist from senior Kate Moss (Auburn, Mass.) as the Owls regained the lead, 2-1.
Westfield took a 3-1 when Gould recorded her hat trick goal with 4:17 remaining in the game. Moss was credited with her second assist.
Lupo scored the final goal with 2:48 remaining.
Western out-shot Westfield, 10-7; Gould and Lupo both took six shots.
Westfield goalie Amanda McCarthy (Franklin, Mass.) recorded seven saves.
