WESTFIELD – Senior Meg Gearin (Groton, Mass.) tallied three goals and an assist, including her 100th career point, to lead Westfield State to an 8-0 victory over Rhode Island College in non-conference women’s soccer action on Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 20.

Westfield improved to 12-1-2 overall and established a new school record by extending its non-losing streak to 14 straight games. RIC dropped to 2-10.

Gearin entered the game with 94 career points and surpassed the magic milestone on her third goal of the game, 1:45 into the second half. Also, it was her 16th goal of the season with ties her with Sandy Pinto (1995) for the most goals in a season.

The hard-working 5-7 forward now has 101 points (43 goals, 15 assists) to rank third on the Owls’ all-time scoring charts despite missing most of her sophomore season because of injuries. She played six games in 2007 and scored eight points.

Pinto (1994-97) ranks first on the all-time charts with 116 points and Holly Maines (1996-99) ranks second with 104 points.

With Gearin and junior Kate MacLellan (Wilbrahm, Mass.) both scoring two goals, the Owls led 5-0 at halftime. MacLellan also had an assist, while senior Colleen Kenney (Longmeadow) finished with a goal and two assists.
