MEDFORD, Mass. -- After dropping the first set, the UMass-Boston Beacons won three straight to defeat the Westfield State College Owls 3-1 (19-25, 25-14, 25-23, 25-16) in a first round matchup in the 2009 NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championship on Thursday afternoon at Cousens Gymnasium on the campus of Tufts University.

The Westfield State women's volleyball team will play University of Massachusetts Boston on Thursday, November 12 at 3:00 p.m. in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament. The eight-team New England bracket of the tournament will be hosted in Medford, Mass., by Tufts University for the second straight year and all tournament game will be videostreamed by Jumbocast. For those attending the tournament, single-session ticket are $5 for adults and $4 for students.

Westfield State College has earned the top seed in the 2009 Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference Volleyball (MASCAC) Championships, which will take place on Saturday, November 7th at the Woodward Center in Westfield, Mass.
The Owls will take on fourth-seeded Framingham State College in the first semi-final round match at 11:00 a.m. EST, and the second semi-final contest between second-seeded Bridgewater State College and third-seeded Worcester State College follows at 1:00 p.m. EST. The two semi-final winners will meet for the 2009 MASCAC Championship and an automatic berth in the NCAA Division III Volleyball Championships approximately 30 minutes after the second semi-final contest.

Westfield State senior Stephanie Bartkus was selected the Massachusetts State College Athletics Conference (MASCAC) player of the week.
The outside hitter from North Merrick, N.Y. posted 15 kills and .406 attack percentage in Owls’ 3-0 victory at Bridgewater State last week that secured MASCAC regular season championship for Westfield.
Westfield, 17-15 overall, finished MASCAC play with a 6-0 record and will host the conference tournament this Saturday. Westfield plays Framingham at 11:00 a.m. in the semifinals, with the championship game scheduled for 3:00 p.m.

BRIDGEWATER - The Westfield State College volleyball team captured the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) regular season title as the Owls downed host Bridgewater State College, 3-0, in the conference finale for both teams.
Westfield completes the regular season with a record of 17-15, including a 6-0 mark in MASCAC play. With the loss, Bridgewater falls to 7-18 overall and 5-1 in the conference. The Owls will be the top seed and host for the MASCAC Tournament which will take place at Westfield on Saturday, November 7. Second seeded Bridgewater will face No. 3 seed Worcester State in the semifinals, while Westfield's opponent has yet to be determined.

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Oct. 23, 2009) – The 2009 Volleyball Hall of Fame Women’s Invitational kicked off with eight matches this evening. A total of 16 teams are participating in the tournament, which is being hosted by Smith College and Mount Holyoke College. Now in its 18th year, the tournament has been broken up into two eight team brackets. Prior to the beginning of the event, the teams were ranked based on their results thus far this season. The top eight teams are competing in the “Gold Bracket” at Smith, while the next eight are playing in the “Silver Bracket” at Mount Holyoke.
In Westfield's Friday game game, tne No. 5 seed Owls defeated Colby, 3-1.
