Westfield State College senior Kerry Arouca of Hanson, Mass., (Whitman-Hanson High School) – a five-time track/cross country All-American for the Owls – also excelled in the classroom as she was selected the Massachusetts State College Athletics Conference (MASCAC) 2010 Howard C. Smith Female Scholar-Athlete of the year.

5,000 Meter Results
BEREA, Ohio - Westfield State senior Kerry Arouca (Hanson) saved her best for last by placing second in the 5,000 meter run at the NCAA Division III outdoor track and field national championships on Saturday, May 29, at Baldwin-Wallace College.
Arouca finished a strong second with a time of 17:01.28, trailing only University of Chicago junior standout Liz Lawton, who captured national championships in both the 5,000 meter (16:54.05) and 10,000 meter runs.
Arouca also doubled at the NCAA championships as she placed eighth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase on Friday to earn All-America honors.

DEDHAM - Senior Kerry Arouca won the 3,000 meter steeplechase and junior Rachel Ryan finished sixth in the javelin at the All New England (Divisions I, II, III) outdoor track and field championships on Saturday, May 8, at Northeastern University.
Arouca was clocked in a winning time of 10:39.81, besting runner-up Sophia Galleher of Amherst by 19 seconds. Ryan continued her solid showing in the javelin with a throw of 123-7.

MASCAC Honor Roll
MEDFORD - Westfield State senior Kerry Arouca and junior Rachel Ryan earned All-New England honors at the New England Division III women's outdoor track and field championships at Tufts University on Saturday, May 1.
Arouca placed sixth in the highly competitive 1500 meter run in a school record time of 4:38.80. The previous school record of 4:38.9 was set by Cindy Sturm when she finished second at the 1982 NCAA Division III national championships.
