WELLESLEY, Mass. – Williams College took the team title at Wellesley's second annual Ann S. Batchelder Golf Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 17. Held at the par-72 Nehoiden Golf Course on the Wellesley College Campus, the event was shortened to a one-day tournament due to inclimate weather.

Three Westfield State golfers participated with freshman Jenny Post placing 32nd with a score of 101 (48-53).

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - The Westfield State women's varsity golf team competed in the Middlebury Invitational on Oct. 3-4.

The Owls placed seventh in the seven-team invite. Amherst won the team title, followed by Williams, Mt. Holyoke, St. Lawrence, Vassar, and Middlebury.

Freshman Andrea Daniels was low medalist for Westfield, placing 23rd with a 36-hole total of 177 (91 and 86). Freshman Jenny Post placed 29th with a 191 (92, 99).

Invitational Results

SOUTH HADLEY - Westfield State began its first season of women's varsity golf by competing in the Mount Holyoke College Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 26-27.

Freshman Andrea Daniels (North Franklin, CT/Montville High School) was the Owls' low medalist, placing 39th with a 36-hole total of 179. Daniels shot an 86 on Saturday and a 93 on Sunday.

Blascak Named Head Coach

Jim Blascak has been named the women’s varsity golf head coach at Westfield State.

Blascak served as the golf coach at St. Mary High School in Westfield last season, and was the assistant golf professional at Blandford Country Club from 1996 to 2002.

He graduated from UMass Amherst in 2000 and majored in sport management. Also at UMass, he was a student manager for the Minutemen basketball team for three years.

Blascak is the program coordinator of the City of Westfield Parks & Recreation Department, a position he has held since November of 2002

Westfield Adds Golf As Varsity Sport

Westfield State College recently announced that men's and women's golf will be added as varsity sports for the 2008-2009 academic year.
