MCLA Outshoots Westfield

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore Shane Ortega (Pittsfield) fired a 76 to lead MCLA to a five-stroke victory (335-340) over Westfield State in a golf match between the Western Mass. rivals on Sunday, Oct. 11, at Tekoa Country Club.

Ortega shot 36 on the back nine despite a double bogey on the par 3 18th hole. The runner-up low medalist was Westfield No. 3 golfer Ryan Donovan, with a 37-42-79.

MCLA also received solid performances from junior Adam Ciborowski of West Springfield/St. Marys High School (44-40-84) and fresman Sean Cota of Adams/McCann Tech (44-43-87).

Individual and Team Results

FARMINGTON, Conn. - The Westfield State men's golf team placed ninth in the ECAC New England Division III championships Oct. 3-4 and Tunix Plantation Country Club.

Endicott finished first in the 14-team championship with a 36-hole score of 309 for its top four golfers. Westfield's score was 349, led by Brett Williamson, who shot a 157 (76 and 81) to place 16th individually.

Also placing for the Owls were: Derek Robichaud (22nd, 78-81-159), Dan Korpita (30th, 80-81-161), and Ryan Donovan (85-87-172).

Pat Pio of Nichols College was low medalist with a 146.

CHICOPEE – Anna Maria golfer Nate McNamara (Leicester, MA) shot a one-over par 72 to earn top individual honors, while Westfield State earned a combined score of 319 to claim team honors at the second Blazers Invitational hosted by Elms College at Chicopee Country Club on Wednesday, Sept. 30.

WILLIAMSTOWN - The Westfield State men's golf team placed first in the four-team MCLA Invitational at Waubeeka Country Club on Thursday, Sept. 24.

The Owls won by 10 strokes over the host Trailblazers, 323-333. Also competing were SUNY Cobleskill and Elms.

Westfield junior Brett Williamson (Ludlow) was the low medalist with a 76, followed by sophomore Dan Korpita (Southampton), who shot a 77.

CHICOPEE, MA, April 24, 2009 – Franklin Pierce freshman Brian Fleckles (Sandwich, MA) carded a medalist-winning round of 3-over par 74 and the Ravens had three finishers among the top 10 to win the men’s golf team championship of the Blazers Invitational on Friday afternoon at Chicopee Country Club.

STERLING - The Westfield State College men's golf team placed 13th in the Worcester State Invitational held at the Sterling National Country Club on Tuesday, April 21.

Brett Williamson finished 25th for the Owls, shooting an 80 on the par 71 course. Dan Korpita placed 32nd with an 82.

WESTFIELD, Mass. –Nick Lombardi fired a low round of 73 to lead Worcester State to the team title in the Westfield State College men’s golf invitational.

The Lancers had a team total of 316, followed by MCLA (321), Westfield State (330), and Holyoke Community College (342).
