Ryan Kalish's Parents Are Westfield State Alumni

Westfield State baseball alumni visit with Boston Red Sox rookie outfielder Ryan Kalish and his family following a recent game. Steve Kalish and Mosko were college roommates and 1978 Westfield State graduates. Ryan's mother, Eileen, graduated from Westfield in1981.

NOTE: The following article was written several weeks ago by Paul Harber, Ryan Kalish's uncle, for the Norton (Mass.) Mirror newspaper. Harber is a long-time sportswriter for the Boston Globe.

My nephew, Ryan Kalish, was brought up by the Red Sox on Saturday and made his major league debut.

Ben Wagner receives the Westfield athletics department's 2010 Outstanding Contributor Award from athletics director Richard Lenfest.

Ben Wagner played on three MASCAC championship baseball teams and appeared in three NCAA Tournaments. He was a four-time all-conference selection and the MASCAC rookie of the year.

Simply put, it’s been a great ride for Westfield State’s Hit King.

Poliferno, Ghedi Make The Grade

Andrew Poliferno (baseball team) and Tiara Ghedi (competition cheering squad) are the 2010 Westfield State Male and Female Scholar-Athletes of the Year. The awards are given annually to the Westfield senior athletes with the highest cumulative grade point averages.

All-New England Teams

Westfield State senior designated hitter Kevin Lyons (Braintree) and senior outfielder Jeff Fields (Pittsfield) were selected to the 2010 Division III All-New England third team by the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA).

MANSFIELD, Conn. – Wheaton College, seeded second in the tournament, got a three-run homer from junior first baseman Sean Munley as the Lyons jumped out to a 5-1 lead after two innings and kept sixth-seeded Westfield State College at arm’s length the rest of the way on their way to a 9-5 triumph in an elimination game during the NCAA Division III regional tournament Thursday, May 20.
