Westfield State Retains Smith Cup

WESTFIELD, Mass. - The highly coveted Smith Cup trophy - emblematic of the top program in the Massachusetts State College Athletics Conference (MASCAC) - will remain in the Westfield State trophy case for another year.





John Messer Receives Major Award

John Messer received the Westfield State College athletic department's
prestigious Outstanding Contributor Award at the annual sports banquet.
Messer played a significant role in the success of the cross country and
track and field programs over the past four years. He was all-conference
four straight years in cross country and won the conference 800 meter
run championship four straight years in track and field. He also was an
All New England and All-ECAC performer and set a school record in the
mile run with a time of 4:14.14. Presenting the award is Westfield State
athletics director Richard Lenfest.




Parr Named Mazza Award Winner

Peter Mazza, right, presents the award named in his honor to Justin Parr
at the Westfield State College varsity sports awards banquet. Parr, a
graduate student at Westfield, has been a standout player and team leader
for the baseball team for the past four years. This award is given annually
to an outstanding student-athlete who best represents the ideals of Peter
Mazza, former vice-president of student affairs at Westfield State. The ideals
include: character, leadership, sportsmanship, athletics ability, academics,
personal development and community service. 




Wolski Named NCAA Women Of Year
5.9.2008 | Field Hockey


Megan Wolski, right, was named Westfield State's recipient of the NCAA
Women of the Year award at Westfield State College's annual varsity
sports banquet. Wolski was a three-time conference player of the year
in field hockey and holds the school records for most career points and
goals scored. The Plymouth, Mass., native was a New England West
Region All-Star in 2006 and 2007 and played in the national senior
all-star game. Presenting the award is Nancy Bals, Westfield State
associate athletics director/senior women's administrator.
